Colorado University Cycling Team Wins Rocky Mountain Cycling Conference Championships

The University of Colorado Road Cycling Team won the Rocky Mountain Cycling Conference Championships this past weekend at Mesa State in Grand Junction, CO. The Conference title is a culmination of a season long points competition compromised of Men’s and Women’s A, B, & C Teams. Over 30 CU cyclists competed and earned points for the team title.
From the Women’s A Team, senior Abby Mickey (Aspen, CO) won the season long Individual Omnium Competition and Men’s A Team senior, Bill Golembieski (Cicero, New York) also won the Individual Omnium. At Mesa State, Junior Camilo Zambrano (Columbia) won the Men’s Road Race while Abby Mickey won the Women’s road race. Senior Christa Ghent (Edwards, CO) won the women’s criterium the night before while senior Brett Peters (Highlands Ranch, CO) placed 2nd in the criterium. Additionally the Men’s B Team swept their team time trial, criterium and road races under the leadership of Coach Jeff Winkler (FasCat Coaching) and CU sophomore Alex Ranum (San Diego, CA).
The Team now has 6 days to prepare for the National Collegiate Cycling Champions in Ogden, UT beginning May 3rd. “We’re taking a strong and deep roster to Ogden to improve upon our 2nd place last year. We’ve been training hard all season and all the guys are on form as evidenced by our teamwork & results this past weekend,” reports head coach Frank Overton. Representing CU will be seniors Will Buick (New Hampshire), Brett Peters, Bill Golembieski, junior Camilo Zambrano (Columbia), and freshman Jackson Long (Sun Valley, ID) and Oliver Flautt (Atlanta, GA). On the women’s side Christa Ghent and Abby Mickey will lead the charge with Nicole Bruderer (Guatemala) and Jessica Bobeck (Buffalo, New York).
