State-of-the-art Valmont Bike Park to open Saturday, June 11

Construction on Valmont Bike Park is entering its final months and the City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department plans to open the newly-developed park with a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, June 11. Details and plans for the grand opening event will be released in May.

Developed with the support and partnership of the local cycling community, Boulder Mountainbike Alliance (BMA) and other organizations such as the PLAY Boulder Parks Foundation and Great Outdoors Colorado, the 40-acre Valmont Bike Park will feature off-road cycling amenities for multiple riding styles and skill levels. Included in the park are features for a competition cyclo-cross course, pump track, dual slalom and slopestyle riding. The park also includes training and skill building trails, a toddler playground, an event plaza, restrooms and parking.

Valmont Bike Park Update from the BMA

Thanks to the Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance for making this recent update on Valmont Bike Park

Last week's snow made for some good photos ops, but caused some challenges for the construction crews. They moved inside and worked on the restroom building (yes, no porta johns!!!) while the snow melted. The windy and warm weather this week dried the site off, and let the crews get back to work on the bike features. Many of the elements of the construction are weather dependent, and we are hoping for an early spring to put the finishing touches on park construction. The photo below is one of the jumps installed on concrete footers....

Boulder Park and Rec Department has been bending over backwards to keep the park on schedule under extremely unsual conditions. They are going where no city in the world has gone to make this park so there is no template. They are having to "learn as they go" which is taking extra time and they are working extremely hard to have this mean no slip in the schedule. Thanks Boulder Park and Rec for working so hard to make this possible!

Poaching Valmont Bike Park

News Item:

Not Cool! Got this emailed to me today

The Parks staff contacted us today and there were two different groups of riders poaching Valmont today. Unfortunately, the riders did not even stick to the trails and rode through areas that were graded and prepped for seeding. This caused some damage and the city is pissed off. Money is really tight, and the money to repair this comes out of the bike park.Â

It would be a bad idea to form a lynch mob to find the riders, we need to put a clear message out that this is unacceptable, and the city will prosecute anyone caught riding on the site before it is open. Please post the message below (or pen your own) on FB, blogs, etc to get the word out. If we do not nip this in the bud, the problems will get bad.

"Valmont Bike Park is NOT open yet. Riders poaching the park were on the site today, and caused damage to the site. The damage caused will delay the park, and anyone caught riding on site will be prosecuted by the city. Very poor form was demonstrated by these riders and reflects negatively on BMA and the community. If you are thinking about sneaking over the fence for a preview, get ready for a date with the judge, our friends at the Parks Department have issued a very stern warning. The Parks Department is bending over backwards to expedite the construction and provide a great riding/racing/training facility, and we are making their job harder."
